Julio Languiller from Melbourne Victoria Australia, who has set two world records in recent times was successful at establishing yet another
endurance record aboard a Honda @125 scooter. The 49 year old self described ‘motorcyle fan' successfully rode around parts of Melbourne
for 24 hours on a 42 km route encompassing the Eastern freeway. He completed 1566 kms in total, stopping only for refuelling and refreshment.
The Uruguayan-born children's book author, artist and bus driver who also set the record for 50cc endurance riding aboard a Honda Today50
last April, said the weather proved extremely difficult. This time around, however, he was fully prepared. “I learned from the last ride that it is vital
to have the right clothing. I had insulated boots and gloves, and some fantastic gear provided by Joe Rocket that really helped.”
“The headwinds were shocking,” he continued. “But the scooter was absolutely perfect throughout the ride, even when running it at 100 kms an hour
for the majority of the time. I would be happy riding to Sydney and back on the Honda @125. The suspension was great and it was extremely comfortable.”
Whilst Honda Australia supported Julio with the provision of a motorcycle, the company's franchise in Melbourne, Scootermarket, provided invaluable assistance
throughout the event.
“The guys from Scootermarket were great. I really could not have done this without them. I also wanted to thank a chap named Neil who came out on his own scooter
and rode the last hour with me. It was nice to have some company,” he said smiling.
To keep the momentum going, Julio and Scootermarket are now in the process of organising a rally in August to bring scooter riders from across the country together.
Honda's Managing Director, Stuart Strickland who attended the event to show his support noted that Julio is a “wonderful ambassador for scooter riding.”
“It has been a very positive experience to be involved with his efforts over these past few months and Honda looks forward to an ongoing relationship with him
and the scootering community as a whole.”
With the assistance of Honda Australia, Julio will now submit the necessary documentation to be recognised for the “24 Hour 125cc Endurance” World Record.
